FleetNet: Internet on the Road

The goal of the BMB+F project "FleetNet -- Internet on the Road" was to develop and promote a vehicular communication system based on decentralized multihop ad hoc radio networks. Our part in this project is the integration of the FleetNet communication system into the Internet. This task covers the following communication aspects:

Protocol interoperability between Internet protocols and FleetNet communication protocols
Mobility support of the vehicles
Efficient discovery of Internet Gateways
Optimized transport layer protocols for efficient communications

The FleetNet consortium consists of the following members: DaimlerChysler, NEC, Siemens, Bosch, Temic, FhI Fokus, and the Universities of Hamburg-Harburg, Hannover, and Mannheim.
