Tcl Extensions for Network Management |
The Network Management Group (NMG) at the Technical University of Braunschweig developed over the last 4 years the Scotty network management software package. This package contains an an extension of the Tool Command Language called Tnm and a network editor called Tkined.A description of the production version of the Scotty package can be found on the Scotty Web Page. This page documents work in progress to enhance the Scotty package and is meant only who people want to track the latest developments.
Work is currently targeted at the Tnm Tcl extension. The Tkined netork editor has several serious design flaws and needs a complete redesign. Work on this re-design is currently not possible due to a lack of man-power.
However, work on the Tnm Tcl extension still continues. The upcoming 3.0.0 release will include better integration with Tcl 8.0 and the Tcl compiler/object system. We are also working on support for SNMP Version 3 and we are continuing our port to 32 bit Windows operating systems.
Support for SNMP Version 3 (SNMPv3) |
We are working on a manager side implementation of SNMPv3. The current snapshot of the Tnm extension providesThe implementation interoperates with implementations from SNMP Research, IBM and Epilogue. During our implementation, we found several things that were unclear and we reported this back to the SNMPv3 Working Group.
- SNMPv3 BER message encoding and decoding functions;
- support for SNMPv3 session options and session types;
- noAuth/noPriv communication with SNMPv3 agents.
