Among the various meanings of "self-similarity", we concentrate on the following: an object is self-similar when it is isomorphic to several copies of itself glued together; more generally, one may have a whole family of objects, each member of which is isomorphic to several other members glued together. The most obvious examples are geometric, but other kinds exist too, such as datatypes defined by mutual recursion. |
