I just moved version 0.9 of tkined and scotty to our ftp archive.
Below is the announcement. This was hopefully the last major rewrite
of the tkined editor. This will allow me to work more on network
management problems than on user interface issues in the future...

A new release of our network editor tkined is now available on
ftp.ibr.cs.tu-bs.de [134.169.34.15]. The files are:
/pub/local/tkined-0.9.tar.gz
/pub/local/scotty-0.9.tar.gz
(No, you did not miss tkined-0.8. This was just an internal release.)
If you are going to the CeBIT computer exhibition in Hannover, Germany
(16.3.-23.3), you are welcome to visit us in hall 22 stand-no. C34. We
will show tkined and scotty plus our network simulator simuLan (which
uses tkined as a user interface) and our configuration database bones
(including a trouble ticket system). I would be very happy to talk with
tkined users and to share ideas.
Whats new in tkined-0.9 ?
- running monitoring jobs can be restarted when loading
a previously saved tkined map
- stripchart and barchart widgets are resizable
- stripcharts and barcharts can be scaled
- the label tool has been turned into an alter tool
- networks with one segment are resizable
- legal and letter page sizes
- a somewhat more consistent layout of the editor menus
- lots of fixes
Whats new in scotty-0.9 ?
- scotty is now running in its own eventloop (making after
and addinput commands possible)
- a simple rpc mechanism between scotty interpreters
- added Poul-Henning Kamp's SNMP implementation
- a graph layout algorithm for discovered networks
- some basic SNMP monitoring and troubleshooting scripts
What is tkined?
tkined is a drawing program that allows you to create maps of your
network configuration. But the most important feature of tkined is its
tcl-based programming interface that can be used to turn the editor
into a network management system. tkined provides commands to present
status information in stripcharts or barcharts.
And what about scotty?
scotty is a tcl interpreter that has extensions to set up TCP
connections, to submit ICMP packets and to query various RPC services.
Included are some sample scripts for troubleshooting your network
(ping, traceroute, finger, query tcp services, query RPC services),
for monitoring network status and to discover and layout your IP
network map.
This version also includes P.H. Kamps SNMP interface. There are
scripts to dump routing tables, to query interface status and to
monitor SNMP variables. Although we are planning to replace this
version with a SNMPv2 version in the future, I think that the SNMP
capability will be of interest to you.
Where do I report bugs and suggestions?
If you have problems or if you have made any changes to run tkined and
scotty on your hardware or if you have found any bugs, please contact
us. You are also invited to join our tkined mailing list. To join,
send a request to tkined-request@ibr.cs.tu-bs.de. Messages that are to
be distributed by the list should be send to tkined@ibr.cs.tu-bs.de.
