Yes, they are not installed as they are just examples. On our systems
we have `real' traceroute, nslook and rstat programs. This is why I
do not install the examples per default. Perhaps I should create
a special make target for this?

Good. The man/man8 directory will be created as you suggested in you
patch. And I will check how I can make use of your proposal to make
the example scripts shell executable as well as scotty executable.
