I just set up tkined. I had it installed before about a year and
a half ago and the current version is much improved (not that the
older version was bad). Congratulations on a great job. I owe
you guys a beer.
Now, is there a collection of tools for use with tkined other than
the ones that come with tkined and scotty? Is there a repository of
scripts?
Is anyone using scotty and/or tkined for collecting long term
statistics on their network? In particular I want to monitor the
interface load on our routers with daily plots of usage and then perhaps
a long term plot showing day averages. I know I can take the
snmp-monitor scripts and mangle them into what I need but before I
did that I thought I'd ask if anyone else has.
There are some problems I have with tkined as well as some wishes
that I hope might get considered in the future.
- snmp monitor interface load
This program is so automatic its great. Its also too automatic
for our setup. Our serial line is rated at T1 speed but
several of our actual connections are not full T1's. The
load percent is calculated by retrieving the interface speed
automatically so it is incorrect. (It is correct in stating
the load of the interface but incorrect in stating the load
of our link). I'm considering adding in an override as
a node attribute. The attribute would have to be a list since
there are several interfaces per node. Alternatively I imagine
that if I could talk snmp to the csu/dsu itself I would get
correct numbers but I havent looked into this yet.
- resizing of items like networks doesnt seem to be supported by
the editor. This means I have to delete a network and redraw
it to get a bigger size. The delete erases all the links from
hosts to the networks. This is irritating but liveable. Would
be a nice luxury feature.
I'm sure there are other things I forgot to mention here. Don't
worry, you'll here from me again ;-)
Thanks,
Tim N.
