Hello,
I have been using scotty for many years now but always in snmpv1
as I had no real security problems.
I have seen in background the battle for the various snmpv2 but
I have no clear idea of the current situation now.
I am still not very concerned with the security issues
but I would now be very interested in using the GETBULK for
retrieving "efficiently" large RMON tables.
We are mainly using 3com equipment here and in their mib (FMSv2)
they have the following snmp configuration:
securityUserPassword OBJECT-TYPE
SYNTAX DisplayString (SIZE (0..10))
ACCESS write-only
STATUS mandatory
DESCRIPTION
"The password required for user confirmation, when access
is made via the local serial port, the front panel,
or via Telnet."
::= { securityUserTableEntry 4 }
securityUserCommunity OBJECT-TYPE
SYNTAX DisplayString (SIZE (0..32))
ACCESS read-write
STATUS mandatory
DESCRIPTION
"The community string identifying this user, when access
is made via the original community-based SNMP (RFC1157)."
::= { securityUserTableEntry 5 }
securityUserLocParty OBJECT-TYPE
SYNTAX OBJECT IDENTIFIER
ACCESS read-write
STATUS mandatory
DESCRIPTION
"The local party identity of this user, when access
is made via secure SNMP."
::= { securityUserTableEntry 6 }
securityUserMgrParty OBJECT-TYPE
SYNTAX OBJECT IDENTIFIER
ACCESS read-write
STATUS mandatory
DESCRIPTION
"The manager party identity for this user, when access
is made via secure SNMP."
::= { securityUserTableEntry 7 }
Does somebody has any experience with it (my few tests failed)?
What they refer as secure snmp, is it snmp2U or 2C or something else?
Thanks in advance for any reply.
Francois
