Are you using MetroX by any chance? (I'm betting you are, but that's just
private speculation as to causes).
The problem is most likely that you don't have a symlink in /usr from X11
-> X11R6. Check that, if it's missing, add it, then try again.
If you want to know what I meant about MetroX (vs XFree86) email me
