Environment: SparcStation 5/70 with 64Mb, Solaris 2.5.1, tcl 8.0p2, tk 8.0p2,
scotty 2.1.7
It takes roughly 7 minutes elapsed time to load up the following:
total # of open views: 1
total # of objects: 4396
# of GROUP objects: 66
# of INTERPRETER objects: 3
# of LINK objects: 2209
# of LOG objects: 1
# of MENU objects: 3
# of NETWORK objects: 66
# of NODE objects: 2027
# of STRIPCHART objects: 13
# of TEXT objects: 8
... this is running 2 ip monitor jobs and 4 snmp monitor jobs.
To expand a small group (ie 1 node, 1 link & 1 network) is virtually
instantaneous - less than 2 seconds.
To expand a large group (ie 1 network, 39 nodes & 39 links) - takes 10
seconds, similar time for moving.
My question is how much is this a property of TCL (or Tk) and how much of
tkined?
If it is tkined's property, then I would be willing to invest some effort in
improving performance.
I suppose the alternative is split the map into a lot of smaller views.
Also I wonder if the map command from Tnm 3.0 (preview) might help?
