Background IntroductionIn the wireless sensor networks, the service quality should be guaranteed by the networks. But due to the seldom of maintenance and lack of interaction, it is difficult to locate the error prone place and find out the causes of the failures. Hence the performance monitoring and debugging system is critical to wireless sensor networks, especially for those whose service qualities are required. In the performance monitoring and debugging of wireless sensor networks, the status before a failure I s more interested than the normal status. But a failure would cause the losing of the statue information. Therefore, an on-board logging system is required to record the information of history status. With this on-board system, the wireless sensor node could send the status which is before the failure happens to the sink. In this case the root cause of the failure in the wireless sensor node or in the wireless sensor networks can be point out. Task DescriptionIn current Contiki operating system, a flash file system, named as Coffee, is provided. The on-board logging system would base on this file system. It could record the given number of last status according to the configurations. After connecting to the sink node, it should send the last status to the sink. Current MAC layer uses a TDMA MAC protocol, it is time critical. Hence this on-board logging system should use the multi-thread mechanism and not break the synchronized time in the sensor node.
