This internal project is a collaboration among the universities TU Braunschweig, Connected and Mobile Systems group, TU Dresden, Networked Systems Modeling group and TU Ilmenau, IoT Engineering group.
Wireless communication technologies, e.g., IEEE 802.11 WLAN have been a key enabler to make road traffic safer for a wide variety of road participants by allowing vehicles to gather cooperative awareness in challenging traffic situations.
Still, Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) like pedestrians and cyclists cannot benefit from these technological developments, as they cannot easily be equipped with dedicated hardware for sensing and communication in the context of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
The aim of this project and the collaboration of the three research groups is to fill this gap by developing mechanisms, strategies as well as systems to support vulnerable road users in certain traffic situations by taking advantage of wireless communications.
In the context of this internal project we are offering various Bachelor and Master's theses ranging from simulation studies up to practical implementations, hardware experiments and even field tests in context of vehicular networks and communication systems.
